The Seattle Dahlia Society is a non-profit organization created for Northwest Dahlia enthusiasts. We grow, promote and show Dahlias in the Pacific Northwest.

ARRANGEMENT RULES

Section # 58
  1. The Public is invited to enter. General Rules outlining Exhibitors and Making Entries apply to flower arrangement entries.
  2. All classes are interpretive.
  3. Entrance and removal time is the same as Dahlia Show entrance and removal time.
  4. Only one entry per person in any one class is permitted but exhibitors may enter as many classes as they wish.
  5. All containers and accessories should be marked with the owner's name but should not visible to the Judges.
  6. Dahlias must dominate in all designs, however, other flowers may be used as long as they do not dominate. Weathered wood, other flowers, foliage including line material - fresh, dry, treated try, and accessories may be used as long as they are subordinate in the design. Designs may be staged in backgrounds, frames or against T-frames, provided by the exhibitor or use the existing background wall. Drapery in the background is allowed. Materials need not be grown by the exhibitor.
  7. Accessories are permitted in all classes, if desired.

GLOSSARY

Abstract Design

A creative design in which plant material and other components are used solely as line, for color & texture, with space to room new images or spaces.

Accessory

Anything in addition to plant material, container, base, background, or mechanics - subordinate to the design.

Designer's Choice

A combination or choice of any plant material - fresh, dry, and/or treated dry (paint, dye, etc.).

Dominate

The stronger effect of one or more of the elements in the design. Implies subordination. A design principle.

Embellishment

The artificial addition to the plant material that changes it appearance (paint, glitter, etc.), must be stated in the Schedule.
